On-the-ground tasks from a few dozen dollars · quote within 1 business day
AI can summarise the internet. It can't go and ask.

Hesitant to hire a freelancer abroad?
Everyone is.

  • What if you can't find the right person?
  • If they get it wrong, how do you explain that to your company?
  • Do you have time to interview five candidates for one small task?

Hand the task to 48 Spot Research instead. Field research, interviews, checks with local authorities — done by people on the ground I've worked with for years, checked before it reaches you, and answered for by one name: mine.

Sound familiar?

Crowdsourcing is brilliant.
If you can find the right person — and manage them.

The platform isn't the problem.
Being the one who finds, briefs and chases the freelancer is.

How it stays real

Fake reports got cheap.
Checking didn't.

A generated field report now costs almost nothing to make. So does a generated photo. Here's how both are kept out of what you receive.

1

People I actually know

Not anonymous profiles. The people doing the work come from a network built over years of living in and working across these regions. I've seen their work before yours arrives.

2

Places I actually know

I've lived in Africa, South Asia and Southeast Asia, not just read about them. An answer that doesn't fit the place — a fee off by a zero, an office that doesn't work that way — gets questioned before it reaches you.

3

Checked from more than one side

Original files, a second contact, a callback where it matters. Every delivery says how it was checked and what couldn't be confirmed. You never have to guess which is which.

Multi-language report

Tired of reading English?
No problem.

Reading a report in your second language costs time, and nuance gets lost on the way. So Spot Research reports arrive in the language you actually think in.

The field work is done by people. AI has one job here: language. And no single model is trusted with it. Every report passes through a team of AI agents from two different companies — Anthropic's Claude and OpenAI's GPT — each with one role, so one model's blind spot gets caught by another.

Heavier models where judgment matters, lighter ones for mechanical checks. Matching the model to the job keeps the cost down — part of why a task can start at a few dozen dollars.

Why I do this

Plenty of talent there. Not enough work.

Years living in Africa & South Asia
10+ years in Southeast Asia
9+ years delivering to clients

To me, these were ordinary places. I lived there.

I spent years in Africa and South Asia — not passing through, but living inside it. For most of the clients I work with, those same places are unknown in every direction: the language, the culture, the way work gets done.

Some of the sharpest people I met there had one problem, and it wasn't skill. It was work. I wanted to build a bridge between the two.

Every spot task is paid work to an international standard. The people doing it sharpen the kind of communication global clients expect, and that opens more doors for them next time. I do it at the scale I can do properly.

Why it costs this little

No office to pay for.
No search to start from scratch.

1

Small, on purpose

No headquarters, no account managers, no layers between you and the person on the ground. Big firms put those costs in your quote. I don't have them.

2

The network already exists

Nine years of delivering to clients means the hardest part — finding someone reliable in that place — was mostly done before you wrote to me.

3

Too big goes elsewhere

If the job outgrows what I can do well, I'll say so and point you to another research firm, a large agency, or a crowdsourcing route that fits.

How it runs

From one message to a checked report

01Day 0

Tell me the place and the task

Where, what needs to be found out, and what you'll use it for. A paragraph is enough. I read it myself and reply within one business day.

02Day 1

A price and a date — or a referral

You get a fixed price and a delivery date before anything starts. If it's a field I pass on, you get a better-placed name instead.

03On the ground

Someone goes, asks and checks

A local contact from the network makes the visit, the call or the interview — briefed by me, so you never explain it twice.

04Before sending

Checked from more than one side

Answers, files and claims are checked against each other. Anything unconfirmed is marked unconfirmed.

05Delivery

In your language, in your inbox

Translated, checked by several AI agents, and reviewed by me before it's sent. Questions about what came back? Just reply.

The price depends on the place and what the task involves. Larger jobs — several cities, many interviews — are quoted as a whole.

Questions

The honest answers

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just do this myself?
Probably, yes. Find someone on a crowdsourcing platform — it's cheaper and often faster. What it costs instead is time: finding someone you can trust, finding out whether they'll deliver, finding out what the going rate even is. Price those hours at your own hourly rate, then compare.
I don't like paying a middleman.
Then doing it yourself is the right call, and there's no fee. You might well get a better price. What the margin here pays for is the part you'd otherwise do unpaid: hours spent searching for the right person, briefing them from zero, checking what comes back, and starting over when someone drops out.
What happens if something goes wrong?
You deal with me, not with the person on the ground. I find out what happened, redo what needs redoing, and tell you plainly if a result can't be relied on. When your company asks what went wrong, you'll have a straight answer and one name to give.
How do I know you'll actually deliver?
Nine years of delivering to clients, and clients who keep ordering. And if a request is something I can't do well, I won't take it — I'll suggest another research firm, a large agency, or a different route. Send the request first; I check every one before saying yes.
How do you keep out AI-generated reports and photos?
Three things together: I know the places, I know the people doing the work, and every delivery is checked from more than one side — original files, a second contact, a callback where it matters. AI-written field reports and generated images are excluded, not edited. The only AI in the chain is translation, and that is checked by several agents and by me.
Isn't this operation a bit small?
Yes. For macro research — market sizing across ten countries, a national survey — use a large firm. Seriously. They're built for it. You'll also pay for their offices and headcount, which is why their quote looks the way it does.
Is there anything you won't do?
Some fields I decline, and some I pass to a company better suited to them. Tell me what you need and you'll get a straight answer either way.

Name the place. Describe the task.

That's enough to start. You'll get a fixed price and a date — or an honest "not me", with a name that fits better.
